The Second Ideal (The Way of Kings Animatic)

The crew of Bridge Four come to rescue Dalinar’s surrounded army from certain death on the battlefield. But Kaladin, haunted by his past, has to swear his oath if he wants the power from his spren Syl to save them all.

This scene comes from The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. I created a Blender scene to establish backgrounds and character staging. I’m working together with a colleague of mine in VFX, and he is in the process of animating the stormlight, Syl, and blood. Therefore, placeholders are outlined in red. For the animatic, I used a clip from the audiobook narrated by Kate Reading and Michael Kramer, and the music is from Attack on Titan.

A Better Man (Words of Radiance Animatic)

After discovering the lost city of Urithiru, Adolin confronts Sadeas on his attempts to sabotage his father, and finally something just snaps.

This scene comes from Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson. I used assets in Blender to create the scene and position the characters, then I took screenshots to use as backgrounds. For the animatic, I used a clip from the audiobook narrated by Kate Reading and Michael Kramer, and the music is from Sword of the Stranger and the Legend of Korra.

The Way of Kings, Animated

After High Prince Sadeas betrays him on the battlefield, High Prince Dalinar attempts to free the enslaved bridgemen from Sadeas's shackles, but it comes at a steep price.

This scene comes from The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. I changed the pace of the original scene to fit better with a TV episode format. For the animatic, I used a clip from the audiobook narrated by Kate Reading and Michael Kramer. I added music, SFX, and atmosphere to push the cinematic mood of the standoff.

The Betrayal

Asmodeus, the Lord of the Nine Hells, relishes in his newfound freedom after entering the prime material plane and betraying Zerxus, his hoodwinked liberator.

This scene comes from Critical Role's Dungeons & Dragons miniseries, Exandria Unlimited: Calamity. I used Blender to create the backgrounds and block in compositions. I've found the improvisational and theatrical atmosphere of D&D is well suited for adaption into cinematic moments.
